Hi, and welcome to my walking  blog.  My name is Jackie McAll, and I love “trudging”.   I live in a pretty village in South Bedfordshire, noted for its John Bunyan connections and for as long as I can remember I have loved both walking and writing.  I so hope that you enjoy reading about both the small scale local walks I undertake and also the longer more demanding trails.  I hope to share tips about the routes I follow and give some inspiration to help you experience some of the serenity I have found in my experiences.   I find that both walking and writing have meditative qualities for me and clear away those “mind chains” referred to in the Hardy quote on my header.  After many years of struggling against the world I have now gained an acceptance that allows me to live joyfully, happily and grateful for my simple freedoms.

As well as walking and writing  my eclectic enthusiasms also include researching Edwardian St Albans, nurturing and expanding my  herb garden, learning to make stained glass decorations, Everton Football club, blues music, oh, and, of course, Thomas Hardy.

In a 1930s dictionary “to trudge” means to “walk with expectation” and that is what I aim to do, looking forward to the unexpected blessings along the way.  I hope that you will join me in my journey.
